Remind is a secure communication tool that helps a teacher send group or individual messages to parents and students without sharing any personal information to the recipient. Recipient information is only visible to the account holder, the teacher. If a teacher is independently using Remind, they will have free access to Remind Chat to send text messages and file attachments. If Remind is being used school-wide, a teacher will have access to Remind Hub. Remind Hub provides additional features such as voice calls, video conferencing integration, urgent messaging, Learning Management System (LMS) integration, engagement statistics, and a greater number of groups and participants.
Remind allows teachers to communicate with students and parents throughout the school year and during remote-learning. Remind offers two tools for different needs. Remind Chat, geared towards individual teachers, is free but the features are limited to instant messaging. Remind Hub, geared towards schools and districts, can be purchased with premium features (voice calls, LMS integration, and urgent messaging) added to the basic Remind Chat plan.
Remind Chat allows a teacher to create collaborative groups with parents, students, or co-teachers to send messages and attach files by text, email, or in the Remind application. A teacher can also get read-receipts and schedule messages. In Remind Chat, a teacher can have up to 10 groups, with up to 150 participants in each. Messages are limited to 300 characters.
Remind Hub has more features compared to Remind Chat, but is only available for purchase to schools, districts, and organizations. It has an automatic translation feature, which allows a teacher to efficiently communicate with the parents, whose native language is not English. With a limit of 10,000 characters per message, the tool will translate it into the language of a parent’s choice. Remind Hub administrators have access to statistics about teacher, parent, and student engagement, along with managing settings and creating groups. In Remind Hub, schools or districts can have up to 100 groups with up to 5,000 people in each group. Additional premium features can be purchased together with Remind Hub and are intended for the tool administrators. With premium features, administrators can also allow teachers to link Remind Hub with their Learning Management System and send urgent messages to communicate unexpected situations.
Age Limitations
If students are under 18 years old, their parents or guardians must agree with the terms and policies and grant permission before students provide their contact information as the Remind recipient. If students are younger than 13 years old, the terms and policies also apply in addition to other considerations. Also, parents will be able to receive and reply to messages for their child. Refer to the Remind Terms of Service for the most recent information.
Privacy Policies
In Remind’s Privacy Policy, it is identified that they collect information such as name, date of birth, email address, and telephone address of the message recipients. The tool’s Anti-Bullying Policy focuses on reporting cases of bullying as all messages are automatically saved. Users cannot delete messages, and all conversations will be permanently stored, including those from deleted accounts. A detailed summary of Remind policies and practices can be found in their Security Overview.
Accessibility
Remind aims at providing service to everyone. Remind provides support to teachers and administrators who have any questions, comments, or suggestions related to accessibility and usability. Please refer to the Accessibility Statement for more information.
