ClassDojo is a free school communication platform and classroom management tool that allows teachers to communicate with students and their parents/guardians. Parents/guardians have the opportunity to glimpse into the daily activities and individual student behavior through shared photos, videos, and messages. Additionally, teachers can upload photos and videos to the class or school story to share directly with students and their parents/guardians.
ClassDojo allows teachers to share photos, videos, and messages with parents/guardians throughout the school day. Teachers can communicate with families or guardians effectively without sharing personal phone numbers. Through ClassDojo, teachers provide parents/guardians with an opportunity to participate by providing them access to their child’s daily behavior chart. Teachers may upload newsletters, share photos or videos of school life and events, create online events, and set automatic reminders for families.
If using ClassDojo in the face-to-face classroom, students will need to be able to view the interface through the teacher’s projected screen to be able to monitor their own progress while in class. Each student is assigned an avatar. When a student has successfully achieved the required number of points, the teacher can use the ClassDojo certificate to reward the student for their achievement. In addition to individual incentives, the tool allows awarding the Whole Class Award or to teams of students. A teacher can award points from a distance using a mobile device such as a smartphone or a tablet.
At any time teachers may change, correct, or delete some of the user profile information or preferences by logging into the user’s ClassDojo account and accessing the account settings page. ClassDojo holds the iKeepSafe FERPA Certification signifying its website, platform, and apps have been reviewed and approved for having policies and practices that are compliant with the federal mandates for FERPA. Class Dojo’s policy states that it does not allow minors to post content to share publicly, and that no student’s account, profile, or student story is made available or visible to the public through ClassDojo.
ClassDojo’s translation service is available in more than 35 languages and allows a teacher to enter content in English and then have parents read it in the language of their choice. ClassDojo is focused on digital inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility and is accessible for those who use a screen reader, a magnifying glass, speech recognition software, or switch technology. The tool can be accessed through its website or associated portable device applications.
